Working together
A private clinical psychology practice offering discreet, research-led work for individuals who value privacy, and rigour.
-
Dr Bell works with founders, C-suite executives, senior professionals in finance and law, individuals/families in the public eye, and international clients.
Her clinical work addresses both diagnosed psychological conditions and more complex or less clearly defined difficulties.
Many clients are referred through established professional and personal networks.
-
It is not uncommon for clients to present as composed and highly capable, while expending considerable effort to sustain that outward impression. Beneath this, there may be persistent anxiety, overthinking, low mood, poor sleep, or difficulty fully relaxing, which over time can contribute to fatigue, reduced clarity, or a quiet sense of being stuck, despite continued external competence.
Many individuals will also have already devoted substantial time to reflection and engagement with self-development material. However, a tendency to intellectualise can at times function as a subtle form of over-control, which is why lasting change typically involves working not only with thinking patterns, but also with emotional and behavioural processes.
-
This is a formulation-led clinical service grounded in doctoral level clinical psychology training, advanced research based psychological science, and the rigour of senior NHS clinical practice.
Dr Bell works with highly individualised psychological formulation, shaped by careful clinical judgement and psychological theory, rather than a surface-level or manualised approach.
What distinguishes this approach is its focus on bringing clarity and insight by drawing together patterns of beliefs, emotional responses, and coping strategies into a coherent clinical formulation, rather than relying on fixed protocols or diagnostic categories, allowing for a more nuanced and individually attuned clinical understanding.
-
A common misconception is that psychological difficulties resolve once they are understood. While insight can be an important part of the process, it is not the only factor involved in change. Difficulties are often maintained by established coping patterns that become automatic over time.
It is also sometimes assumed that this work is primarily focused on revisiting the past. While historical factors can be relevant (particularly in areas such as self-worth or relationships) the emphasis is on how these experiences inform a formulation of current difficulties, including present-day patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding.
-
Progress is understood flexibly and is guided by what is clinically relevant and meaningful for the individual.
For some, this involves greater clarity around how psychological difficulties are maintained, alongside increased flexibility in how they are managed in daily life.
For others, it may involve a reduction in specific clinical symptoms, alongside the development of practical coping strategies to help manage and lessen their impact day to day.
-
This work is not suitable for crisis support or urgent situations.
Where clinically appropriate, a structured, time-limited approach may be offered, although the majority of work is formulation-led and typically medium term in nature.
If you are unsure about suitability, this can be discussed in an initial conversation.
